Accra Great Olympics have won two Premier League titles, a record only bettered by Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak and AshantiGold.
In an ideal world, Olympics should be challenging for the league title but that has not been the case especially over the last four years.
Since the Wonder club secured a return to the top flight in 2016 after just a season in Division One, the Accra-based club have struggled to gain a foothold.
Despite being relegated in the 2016/17, Olympics were allowed alongside King Faisal to partake in the 2019/2020 season after the GFA approved their participation at the Elective Congress last year.
The decision was met with the signings of veterans as the Wonder Club were eager to avoid relegation. The recruitment of veterans such as Emmanuel Clottey, Ollenu Ashitey, Ernest Sowah, and Godfred Saka did not pay off as they lost more games (7) than they won (6) in the cancelled 2019/20 league campaign.
This time around, the Accra-based club have chosen the trajectory of signing young and talented players like midfielder Charles Danso Otoo and centre back Razak Karsim from Division One League side Asokwa Deportivo SC and lower-tier side Montreal United.
These rookies are not only coming to just play for Great Olympics but to also stake a claim for themselves, according to Head Coach Annor Walker, " They (signings) are doing good and they are also here to make a name for themselves".
Last season started on the worst possible note for Olympics as poor results led to the appointment of three managers (Prince Koffie, Seth Hoffman and current coach Annor Walker). Walker was able to make an impact as his side ended ninth in the cancelled campaign.
Coach Walker expressed his happiness about the signings and divulged the club's target is to finish in the top five.
"Almost all the players played in Division one but their performances are more or less like Premier players. I have targeted that between first and fifth, we should be one of those positions," he concluded.
Great Olympics will be looking to exact defeat against Medeama on matchday one of the Ghana Premier League in Tarkwa.
