The Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) wants President Akufo-Addo to restore some of the major events instituted by Mr Rawlings as part of efforts to celebrate his life.
According to Henry Ametefe, events such as June 4 and December 31 celebration were instrumental in institutionalising the fight against anti-graft.
"There is something he must not forget. If he does not restore some of his celebrations, particularly the June 4 and 31st December, he should forget about state burial," he said on Friday.
He made these comments after a visit to the residence of the former President at Ridge following his death.
Flt. Lt. Rawlings (Rtd) died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness.
President Akufo-Addo yesterday. announced among other things, a state burial in honour of the late statesman.
But speaking to journalists, Henry Amatefe believes a state burial is not enough if the major commemorations that embody the value of Mr Rawlings remain outside the national calendar.
"Because what are you going to remember Rawlings for? It’s what he stood for. And that has led this country to reducing tension among people. And by also helping to institutionalize state institutions that help to champion the development of our country," he emphasized.
Meanwhile, a committee has been convened by the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to deliberate on the way forward as far as the burial of former President Rawlings is concerned.
