Head of Communications for the Ghana Hockey Federation, Rev. Lomo-Mainoo says the Ghana Hockey team is determined to win all gold medals in the 2023 African Games to be staged in Ghana.
Despite the team's inability to qualify for the postponed Olympic Games in Tokyo, Rev. Mainoo is optimistic there will be enough quality in the next three years to win laurels for the country.
“We have to collect all the gold medals, no joke because, we will have three new pitches and have our coaches well trained, ” Mainoo said in an interview with Joy Sports
He added that the country is abound with gifted sport men and women capable of winning medals.
“Ghana is full of talents," he noted "with a little a bit of push, a little bit encouragement, with the foresight that the executives have, I believe in three (3) years Ghana will not only be Africa's greatest but world beaters, ” the communications director stated.
Ghana was handed the mantle to host the 2023 African Games in October 2018.
The government of Ghana is expected to construct a 50,000 capacity stadium to serve as games village. It will host the opening and closing ceremonies.
A nine-member Local Organizing Committee (LOC) was inaugurated last month to ensure a successful organization of the games.
They will liaise with various federations to get athletes ready for the competition. The Ghana hockey team are set to be back in action again on February 13.
