Founder and CEO of WatsUp TV, Abdoulaye ‘ABD’ Traore has been named among Avance Media and Africa Youth Awards’ annual list of 100 Most Influential Young Africans for 2020.
Abd Traore who also happens to be the only Guinean on the list is earning the recognition for the second time since his inclusion in 2018.
This feat covers his works in expanding coverage of his entertainment television channel, WatsUp TV across the continent through Satellite and Digitial platforms.
He shares the list with notable faces such as Davido, Peace Hyde, Bobi Wine, Aya Chebbi, Caster Semenya and climate change activists Vanessa Nakate & Nisreen Elsaim.
With a record 49 females and 51 males represented from 29 African countries, the list also features 7 young ministers from across the continent, including Angola’s Finance Minister, Vera Esperança dos Santos Daves, Rwanda’s ICT Minister, Paula Ingabire, Sudan’s Minister of Youth, Wala'a Essam al-Boushi and Namibia’s deputy ICT minister, Emma Inamutila Theofelus.
Sharing insight about the list, Prince Akpah, MD of Avance Media noted: “the 2020 list features young people pursuing various interests intended to put the name of the continent on the globe through selfless sacrifices and spirited leadership”.
He also stated that young people are motivated by the stories of these young achievers who continue to take a lead amid a global pandemic.
As founder and CEO of WatsUp TV, ABD has led his brand transition from a TV show in 2014 to a 24 Hours Television Channel in 2020.
In 2018, he also launched his first entertainment music magazine named WatsUp Magazine, which was covered by Afrobeat highlife Ghanaian artist Bisa Kdei
