President of the Ghana Bar Association says focused education is an
answer to dealing with violence in the Odododiodio constituency.
Anthony Forson Jnr says even though somebody is to blame for the
violence, “you cannot blame government nor opposition but the
lack of education”.
Last week, the Ghana Police Service said it had identified over 4,000
electoral flashpoints to guide its tactical arrangements and deployments
ahead of the December 7, polls.
The Odododiodio constituency alone had 50 flashpoints. A recent peace walk turned violent after party supporters of the NPP and NDC clashed.
Speaking on the Am Show on JoyNews, Mr Forson Jnr said, “once you see a flashpoint then there must be a concerted effort with all the stakeholders to ensure that there will be peace before, during and after the elections”.
He believes more education particularly focused education is an answer to ending the violence.
Mr Forson Jnr is, therefore, calling on the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and political party leaders to preach tolerance.
He said, “the difference between the political parties is just like making light soup, while the procedure of preparing it may be different, it is the taste that the voter assesses” and the people must be made to understand it.
Meanwhile, the GBA has introduced the lawyer locator which is
accessible on its website www.ghanabar.org.
The Association is deploying the technology as an interface that allows the public to look for lawyers.
