The Ghana Police Service has honoured 14 police officers who died in the line of duty.
The officers who died in 2019 have been promoted posthumously.
Chief Inspector William Kofi Dogbe, Chief Inspector Justice Aryee, Chief Inspector Moses Appiah, among others had their names engraved on a police cenotaph at the police training college at Tesano.
The event saw in attendance, President Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo as well as Senior Officers from the police service.
The deceased officers lost their lives in various ways; from vehicular accident to drowning and dying from a stray bullet from a colleague, among others.
Chaplain of the police service ACP Very Rev. Fr. George Arthur, described them as heroes worth celebrating.
"As terrible as these events were, they all served a purpose. And today, as terrible as we feel the pain of the passing of these our brothers and sisters, we agree that it was for a purpose," he said.
The Rev. Father further urged his colleague police officers to emulate the deeds of their passed colleagues and also endeavor to sacrifice for humanity.
"We are to take up that challenge. All of us are not called upon to die sacrificially, but those police officers who lost their lives were warring against crime.
"They were fighting for us. They were called upon to serve this country, and in the process, they paid with their dear lives," he said.
He also seized the opportunity to console the bereaved families and asked for guidance and protection in his prayer, for such persons.
"We owe them a debt of gratitude. May the good Lord continue to bless and keep all of us and may the good Lord continue to keep the families bereaved," he added.
