The Director of Advocacy and Policy Engagement at CDD-Ghana, Dr. Kojo Pumpuni Asante says there is a history of 'no action' among security agencies in the country.
This he says is due to the numerous unresolved security issues and attacks over the years.
Speaking in an interview on Newsfile on JoyNews, Mr. Asante maintained that the current stance by the security agencies if not resolved will lead to the formation of more vigilante groups.
“At the moment, it’s like, if the citizens don’t see that the law will deal with you, then they are either going to take the law into their own hands or fight,” he added.
Mr. Asante told host, Samson Lardy Anyenini that it is therefore important for the Inspector General of Police (IGP), James Oppong-Boanuh to organize a press conference and update citizens on all pending cases that have threatened the peace and security in the country.
Touching on recent clashes between supporters of the two major political parties, NPP and the NDC in the Odododiodio Constituency and security ahead of the 2020 electioons, Mr. Daniel Armah Attoh, who is the Research Manager at CDD-Ghana said violence in politics was unnecessary.
According to him, the pre-election survey conducted by the organization indicated that these acts had no justifications.
"We have majorities of Ghanaians, about 87% to about 92%, who said they don’t support the destruction of private or even public properties.
"They don’t support violence perpetrated by political party supporters and they also don’t support the destruction of campaign materials.
"So in general when you look at the picture, Ghanaians are not in favour of violence in our electoral processes," he concluded.
