Members of the Minority in Parliament have requested that the Minister of Interior, Ambrose Derby be summoned to the House to inform them on security arrangements made for MPs ahead of the elections.
MP for South Dayi constituency, Rockson Dafiamekpor who spoke on behalf of the Minority called on the Speaker to arrange a briefing by Mr Ambrose Derby on security measures for Members of Parliament.
"I was hoping there would have been an arrangement for the Minister of Interior to come and brief the house regarding security arrangements towards the election and other arrangements the House is making for Members.
His comments come after Mr Ambrose Derby stated that measures will be taken to guarantee the safety of MPs after the gruesome murder of Mfansteman MP, Ekow Hayford along with other attacks on MPs.
As part of plans to tighten the security of the legislators, a total of 200 police officers are to be deployed by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to the Parliamentary Protection Unit to protect the MPs.
In addition to that, he indicated that the Interior Ministry is working to boost the effectiveness of the unit to 800 personnel.
According to Mr Rockson Dafiamekpor, the proposed briefing by the Interior Minister should take place before Parliament goes on recess.
