There are increasing calls for the inclusion of female traditional leaders in conflict resolutions as violent acts surfaces in the run-up to the elections.
The calls come on the heel of violent clashes between youth supporters of opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the Odododiodo constituency.
In outlining his expectations of security agencies, Maj Gen Francis Ofori, Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Training, has revealed that female traditional leaders are revered and conflict resolution involving women has proven sustainable and effective.
He spoke to Joy News on the sidelines of the 20th commemoration of the UN Security Council resolution on women, peace, and security.
"In our communities, you notice that there's a lot of respect for our Queen mothers. The elders say that when you're unsuccessful in resolving an issue, ask an old woman, and that has been the practice. Therefore in our communities, I can say without a shadow of doubt that Queen mothers are increasingly getting involved in conflict resolution" he said.
He also said his outfit has been rolling out peace and security training across the country all year round and looks forward to partnering interested organizations for more of such outreach progammes to ensure peaceful elections.
