Hearts of Oak legend Bernard Don Bortey believes he can end Asante Kotoko’s long wait for an African title if he is appointed as coach.
Kotoko have not enjoyed success in Africa in over three decades. They last won an African title in 1983.
Since then, they have lost two finals. They were beaten in 1993 by Egyptian club, Zamalek in the Champions League.
In 2004, they lost the Confederation Cup trophy to arch-rivals Hearts of Oak - a side Bortey was part of.
However, Don Bortey, who is now a coach, says he is ready to help them end the drought.
“I can solve kotoko CAF Continental trophy drought if I become a coach for Kotoko. I am ever ready to coach Kotoko and I can win Africa for Kotoko,” he told Hot FM.
“Kotoko have a strong squad for the Ghana Premier League, but they have to buy players outside Ghana to blend the players for them to able to succeed in Africa.”
Don Bortey coaches second-tier club, Techiman Gold Stars. He has been in charge of the club since June this year, two months after he announced his retirement.
The 38-year-old enjoyed a successful career, winning two African titles and the Ghana Premier League four times.
