A Circuit Court in Kumasi has remanded an NDC activist and two others into police custody in connection with robbery investigations.

Awudu Suley aka Scorpion and the two others have been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.

The 3 were part of some 10 men whose arrest during a police raid in front of the office of Asawase MP, Muntaka Mubarak, sparked protests from the NDC at the weekend.

Family members and sympathizers of the accused Awudu Suley gathered at the Asawase court on Tuesday morning for the proceedings.

The lawyer for the accused, Anis Moghtar Mohayideen said the prosecutor failed to back his claim with facts.

“What originates or invokes the jurisdiction of the court is always the charge sheet together with the facts accompanied with it.

“If you have come to court with the charge sheet ready, duly filed together with the statement of facts attached to it and the prosecution says they are not ready to take the plea of the accused persons, in my view that is very regretful,” he bemoaned.

MP for Asawase constituency, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak expressed his disappointment at the court. According to him, he is surprised that no charges have been leveled against Awudu Suley, although the court has charged Awudu Suley with conspiracy to commit robbery, the court claims they are not ready to charge them.

Also, he accused the court of being politically bias, because he believes there is no proof that Awudu Suley and the others have engaged in robbery.

The accused will reappear in court on November 11 2020.
