Campaign Manager for the New Patriotic Party, Peter Mac Manu has in an interview disclosed that the party has developed a strategy to reduce the number of rejected votes during elections.

Speaking to JoyNews' Araba Koomson, he stated that the party will embark on a nationwide expedition where a rigorous education exercise on voting will be done using a dummy ballot paper.

This he said will put them a step ahead of winning the December 7 election, in reducing the percentage of rejected ballots that will be in the party's favour.

“For us, we believe strongly that the dummy ballot papers we are going to do and take across the country will minimize the rejected votes that hitherto has been going against the NPP," he said.

Peter Mac Manu highlighted that the exercise would also aim at informing the electorates on the party's position number, i.e No. 1. This for him will dispel any confusion among voters that may affect their chances of winning.

“If you look Into the past results from the Electoral Commission, rejected votes have been an issue, so if our placement is in a location like number 1, education makes it easier for the voters to identify us with the brand, rejected votes will be minimized as far as possible and we will get the vote that is expected for us," he said.

Meanwhile, Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch Newspaper, Ben Ephson has hinted that there will be an increase in rejected ballot this year due to the placement of presidential and parliamentary candidates.

He predicted that political parties are likely to lose votes through rejected ballots if an aspiring parliamentary candidate’s number does not tally with its presidential candidate.

“This time the unofficial rejected ballot is going to be very big unfortunately, if your presidential candidate is number four and you the parliamentary candidate you are number 3," he said.

Ben Ephson mentioned that the significance of placements on the ballot paper, helps to determine how easy it is to market a candidate.
