The Savannah Regional executives of the NPP say the party is yet to select a replacement for the late Parliamentary Candidate for Yapei Kusowgu, Abu Kamara, who died in a car crash last week.
Mr. Kamara, who has since been buried, died alongside an aide and one other passenger while returning to Tamale in the Northern Region after inspecting a project in his constituency.
With his forms already filed at the EC office, the party has a 10 day window to nominate and file a new candidate to replace the deceased.
Already sources within the constituency say, one Salia Kamara, said to be the brother and financier of the late Abu Kamara is in a comfortable lead to be named as his replacement.
But in a statement issued by the regional executives and signed by the Director of Communication, Mohammed Issah, the party said "the decision to replace any Parliamentary Candidate lies solely in the bosom of the National Executive Committee; not the Constituency or Region."
According to the statement, the party executives are yet to decide on the matter.
"The Constituency and Regional Party are scheduled to meet and deliberate on same in the coming days and revert back to the National Executive Committee for the obvious replacement," the statement concluded.
Meanwhile, campaign activities of the party in the Savannah Region have been put on hold, while party flags fly at half-mast, following Abu Kamara’s unfortunate demise.
“These directives are in line with the party's respect and condolence to the families of our deceased heroes; Abu Kamara, Mr. Kotochi Majeed, and Mr Adam Abu.
"We mourn with the families in these trying times. May the Good Lord grant them Jannat-al Firdaus. Amen”, the Savannah Regional NPP noted in an earlier statement.
