The Founder of Effort Beekeepers Association in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region has urged government, philanthropists and benevolent organisations to help in supporting their business and to help in the growth of the local economy.
Hayford Yao Dometi strongly believes that if the apiculture is given the necessary support it could help control unemployment in the country, he said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency during a day's training for members of the Association.
He further stated that the challenge facing the association was lack of funding which is needed to expand the venture and maximise production of honey and its products to feed the local economy.
Mr Noah Adenyikor, the Secretary to the Association said that, the entity has been through thick and thin but stays focused on their primary objective to empower people to eradicate poverty and also empower the youth to take up the venture.
He appealed for a vehicle which would be used to transport the product from the apiary to the processing and packaging centre.
Prosper Atikor, a trainer at Adidome Farm Institute, which is under the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, applauded the Association for the positive impact shown to their communities.
He further stated that the institute would support members of the Association and farmers with the skills needed to improve and promote their businesses.
