The flagbearer of the All People’s Congress (APC) Hassan Ayariga says to help fight crime in the country, it is essential that Ghana develops an extensive database with information on all citizens.
According to him, this database will help keep track of every Ghanaian especially criminals who try to run from the law.
“The police need to be able to track down everybody in this country. That way when a crime is committed it is easy to identify those involved through fingerprints and blood groups,” Mr Ayariga said at the Presidential Debate for minority parties held by JoyNews and IMANI Africa, on Thursday.
His comments are on the back of growing security concerns in the country after the MP of Mfantseman was murdered by highway robbers.
The murder of the lawmaker came after the murder of a VIP driver during a robbery attack on the Accra Kumasi Highway, a secessionist attack in the Volta Region, an attack on an NDC campaign team at Ejuratia, among others.
Meanwhile, the APC Flagbearer believes that political parties have infiltrated the security agencies with their footsoldiers, who in his opinion do not have the requisite qualification to become members of the force.
This, he said, contributed to the ineffectiveness of the nation's security agencies to deal conclusively with some of these crimes.
“What we need to do is to give an academic requirement for people going into the agencies and many more requirements that one must have in order to become a security officer.”
He stated that his reform measures such as the institution of strict requirement for recruitment will filter the applicants to the security agencies and help strengthen the nation's security agencies.
