The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says as a sovereign republic, no one has a right to claim part of Ghana.
While condemning some separatist acts in the Volta Region, John Mahama said the actions of the secessionist group could be dire for the country if copied by other ethnic groups.
His comment follows a series of attacks perpetrated by members of the Homeland Study Group Foundation on Friday in the Volta Region.
The alleged separatist group had blocked major entry points into the Volta Region claiming independence as Western Togoland.
The armed men, numbering about 50, also forcibly took over the Aveyime and Mepe police stations simultaneously; overpowering the police officers and making away with the weapons in the armoury.
Although some 31 members were subsequently arrested and two alleged to have died, many continue to describe the situation as worrying.
But addressing the chiefs and people of Jinijini as part of his Bono Regional tour, former President Mahama said, the development must not be entertained.
Mr. Mahama used the platform to tout the unity preached by the NDC during it's tenure in power.
According to him, the NDC has never been a divivise party hence has the ability to unite all on one land irrespective of one's ethnic group.
