Founding executives of the Malaria Media Forum and Coalition on the ‘Zero Malaria Starts With Me’ campaign have been outdoored.
They consist of selected journalists across the country to who are to actively intensify the fight against malaria.
Founder and Executive Secretary of the African Media and Media Research Network [AMMEREN] Dr Charity Binka said the aim is to energize talented journalists to provide the support for effective reporting on malaria.
This, she said, will also create a platform through which journalists can collaborate and productively engage on this important social issue.
She was speaking at the event which took place in Accra.
“Advocacy is largely about bringing people together and creating new forms of association and collaboration with a view to reaching a particular objective and this media coalition will be a crucial means by which this happens," she said.
The media, according to Dr Binka is one of the primary means through which the general population receives information and is aids in the creation of national conversation hence, the need to bring them on board.
The Executive Council is the body that provides leadership and structure to the coalition and is occupied by 2 co-Chairpersons elected by the majority every two years.
The regional representatives would be elected every year by majority of members based in that region and they are to ensure that a monthly report on malaria is produced as well as monthly reports to the Secretariat.
Each region of Ghana now has a representative with Joy News’ Ivy Setordjie for the Volta and Martina Bugri for the Northern region, among others.
In an interview, some members of the coalition noted that the task will help them in achieving the desired results of writing feature stories.
The campaign dubbed "zero malaria starts with me seeks to help eradicate malaria completely from Ghana.
Veteran journalist Oheneyere Gifty Anti has endorsed the campaign and declared her dedication to it’s vision.
