Asawase MP Muntaka Mubarak has questioned the Electoral Commission (EC) on anomalies in the new voters' register.
The MP in a letter demanded answers to why over 1,200 names have been deleted from the register in his constituency, and about 3,900 names added on.
"This has created a situation where registered voters can not check their names, leaving both the voters and EC officials confused as to how it happened," he said.
He said in the Asokore Mampong constituency, for instance, 385 registered names were recorded during the exercise, however, after the EC submitted a copy of the constituency's register for the exhibition, over 1,000 names had been added.
Also, "in the Adenyase Electoral Area, [MallamTechiman Street (F261501)] a total of 713 names were recorded during the exercise, but in the exhibited register 314 are left with 399 names missing," he said.
The Electoral Commission in June promised to provide the country with a new and credible voters register.
The Commission stated that the old voters' register was characterised by inconsistencies, thus, the voters' registration exercise.
Despite the assurance, there have been reports of anomalies in the new register.
During the exhibition exercise started on Friday, various reports on missing names as well as duplicated IDs have been made in some exhibition centers.
Though the opposition NDC on Thursday called on the EC to rectify the mistakes in the new register, it further expressed disappointment in the Commission for failing to provide the country with a new credible voters’ register as it promised.
The Minority Chief whip also called on the EC to rectify the inconsistencies in the register in his constituency.
