Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Dr Bossman Asare says not more than 700 voters will be allowed at a polling station during the December 7, elections.

Ghana will be going to the polls to elect a new president and MPs in less than 75 days, the EC has been devising measures to reduce the numbers at the polling stations.

“In 2016, the threshold for each polling station was a maximum of 850 but because of the pandemic in 2020. This is what the commission is saying; the maximum that will be allowed at each polling station will be 700," he explained.

Speaking at the Star-Ghana Election 2020 Grant Partners Learning Event, Dr Bosman Asare, indicated that, any polling station that exceeds the said number of voters would be categorised into groups.

“Any registration centre that has more than 700 people, we are going to split them into A and B" he said.

The initiative by the Commission is part of the measures adopted to control the spread of the novel coronavirus.

During the voters' registration exercise, the Commission came under a lot of criticisms with some people fearing the country's Covid-19 cases was going to escalate.

With the country still working on totally eliminating the virus, the EC has assured that it will put measures in place so electorates are safe at all polling stations.
