The Electoral Commission (EC) has responded to claims by the country’s biggest opposition political party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the voters' register is not credible.
The NDC party in a press briefing stated that they have "observed grave anomalies that threaten the conduct of Peaceful, Free and Fair elections".
However, Director of Elections at the EC, Dr Siribuo Quarcoo, says the party’s concerns are not as serious as they allege and has asked the party to engage with the EC through the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) to discuss their concerns with the electoral roll.
“If there is something that isn’t understood, an Interparty Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting can be called to thoroughly discuss matters.
We acknowledge there are challenges, and it is the reason for the exhibition - to rectify errors and inaccuracies, ” he said.
Former President and current flagbearer of the NDC, John Mahama, has suspended his campaign in order to address his party's concerns with the EC.
Meanwhile, the EC has also laid out new Covid-19 safety protocols for the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
Per its directives, no more than 700 people will be allowed at one polling station on Election Day.
The Commission also says voters will be grouped in categories in places where the given number is exceeded.
