The CEO of MALZ Promotions and organiser of Miss Universe Ghana, Menaye Donkor, has revealed that this year’s winner will be appointed and not competed.
As the norm, organisers of the beauty pageant would have held auditions, and for a number of weeks, selected ladies who would battle it out until a winner is crowned on a stage in front of a packed audience.
However, this year's is different due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In an interview on Thursday with Lexis Bill on the ‘Personality Profile’ on Joy FM, Menaye said, “As a leader, my priority is to ensure that everyone around us, the team, and the ladies that will go through the auditioning process is safe."
"It’s something that we went back and forth about, trying to figure out the best way to go about things this year, and we came up with a perfect plan to unveil our appointed queen to support us”.
Adding that the decision was unanimous, with all stakeholders “It was a discussion that I had with the international office, and we agreed to appoint a representative this year to represent Ghana.”
Addressing how the new selection was going to be, Menaye described the attributes of an ideal choice, one who changes lives and does good.
“We’re really looking at one lady that will make a difference because you know the pandemic has affected a lot of lives so as a queen, her responsibility this year during her reign, is to basically help the needy, put on her crown not just to portray a beautiful girl, but to change lives and do good," she said.
This Year’s Miss Universe Ghana queen will be unveiled on September 26, at the Labadi Beach Hotel. The show will also be pre-recorded and shown on Joy Prime television.
