Paramount Chief of the Yeji Traditional Council Nana Yaw Kagbrese V has called on traditional rulers to desist from engaging in partisan politics as enshrined in Article 276 of the 1992 Constitution.
He made this call when the NDC flagbearer John Mahama paid a courtesy call on him as part of his tour of the Bono East Region.
The President of the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs also used the opportunity to caution political parties from engaging in chieftaincy issues; as that breeds conflicts and dents the dignity of the institution.
In agreement, former President John Mahama assured the chiefs and people that the NDC as a party has over the years been at peace with the traditional authorities and would continue to desist from delving into chieftaincy matters.
However, Mahama accused the NPP of engaging in political violence sighting the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-elections as a clear example.
He further stated that, up until today, the commission set by the incumbent government has still not dealt with the matter.
