The Chief Safety Officer of African World Airline, Captain Kwesi Oteng has revealed that the airline is ready to commence operations at the Ho airport if approval is given.
According to Captain Oteng, although they are still awaiting vetting and determination from the aviation authorities, the airport meets their safety standards and will soon communicate their flying route to the general public once they receive the official go-ahead.
The $25 million airport, he said, is in a very good condition and is comparable to others in the country.
He added that once operational, the airport would improve on economic activities for both the capital and the Volta region as a whole.
Captain Kwesi Oteng made these comments after delegations from the company including the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) and South Africa Airline Company toured the airport Thursday to assess the readiness of the facility.
The President of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede said that he was surprised when the Volta Regional Minister said that the Ho Airport was not ready to be operational.
Togbe Afede added that he believes in the progress of the Volta Region and was encouraged by the readiness of the AWA to start operations immediately.
According to him, this would bring job opportunities to the youth in the region.
“The African World Airline is very much ready and waiting on government to start flying from Accra to Ho,” Togbe Afede said.
Captain Evaristus Cincin Dagbe of GACL is hopeful that the economic fortunes of the region will improve when the airport starts operating.
Meanwhile, assistant aviation security officer of the Ghana Airport in charge of Ho, Ms Lucy Adzorxornu assured that the airport is ready to be operational.
