Government, in collaboration with Germany has trained some 400 Ghanaian diasporans and potential migrants in various vocational skills.
The project which was launched in 2018 was christened, “Short Term Skills Training for Ghanaians Returning from the Diaspora and Potential Migrants.”
The First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo who graced the National Vocational Training Institute graduation ceremony extended her gratitude to the German government for committing a total of 4.5m to the migration and employment promotion project. You have positioned yourself as Ghana’s key partner in the area of TVET we look forward to more collaboration as we also emulate your model of using TVET as a pivot for industrialization as part of Ghana’s flagship 1D1F program.
A total of 293 females and 107 males benefited from the training. The duration of the training ranges from three to eight months.
She indicated that the government of Ghana has already spent $600 million dollars on TVET in the last three and half years a commitment that has yielded substantial dividends in development in infrastructure and human resource.”
The project aims to transform vocational education in Ghana through the Modernization of Vocational Education Project being implemented by the Ministry of Education.
The initiative which is under the Migration and Employment Programme (MEP) was executed in three regions: Greater Accra, Ashanti and Brong Ahafo (now Bono and Ahafo regions).
The Hard Skills component of the project was provided by the NVTI in 11 skill areas. Twenty-six NVTI accredited institutions drawn from Public and Private Vocational Training Institutes, as well as Mastercraft Persons, were involved in the training.
The project involves the upgrading of infrastructure in the 34 vocational training institutes of NVTI as well as the NVTI Head Office, two Opportunities Industrialisation Centres (OICs) training institutes and two Foundries.
Also 27 existing curriculum of the NVTI will be reviewed under the project.
