A widow, Maame Afua, and her family have expressed gratitude to the general public after receiving assistance from several persons to help release them from general hardship.
A few weeks ago, she and her two sons were at a crossroad, awaiting the worse as Covid-19 restrictions collapsed her daily routine as labourers’ assistant at sites.
Sleeping on empty stomach with her two sons in an uncompleted building became their fate.
Today however, the narrative of Maame Afua and her sons has changed after some kind-hearted individuals reached out them.
“I did not expect this kind of love from Ghanaians,” she tells JoyNews.
She said some of her benefactors have now become family as they call to check up on her sons.
“I am human, sometimes, you will need someone to talk to or comfort you and through JoyNews, I have come to know that I have loved ones.”
Maame Afua has started trading in beaded flip flops from the over ¢25,000 cedis she received from donors.
She announced that she will not be trading in the flip flops only.
“When I finally leave the uncompleted building, I will venture into pastry making too,” she says.
Theophilus Akoto is Maame Afua’s first son, a final year Junior High School student readying himself for the 2020 BECE.
But due to his family’s dire living condition, he developed a bizarre technique in order to study.
After interventions, Theophilus neither puts his legs in water nor drinks from the same water whiles he studies.
He also no longer goes to bed on empty stomach.
“There is enough food for us to eat now but for the drinking of water while studying, I still do it”
Theophilus expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all kindhearted individuals who reached out to him and his family.
“God bless you,” he said.
