Member of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Ras Mubarak, says he will be tendering in evidence to support claims that state-owned Exim Bank has paid musician Shatta Wale ¢2 million to work as a brand ambassador.
This comes after management for the Bank denied the allegations insisting the services of entertainment personalities have been sought through a third-party media consultant.
This, Deputy Chief Executive Officer with oversight of the Finance and Administration Division, Kwame Adu-Darkwa, explained was to support them in promoting their product since it was necessary.
But, he insisted that he has not signed or sighted any cheque doling ¢2 million to any artiste.
Speaking to JoyNews Ras Mubarak said, “I can tell you for a fact that huge amount of monies have been given to the artiste and others.”
“I will want to tender it in at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) at parliament so that it will be looked at.”
He stated that he does not understand why such colossal money will be handed to one person when the country is still grappling with the effects of Covid-19.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Parliament's Public Accounts Committee James Klutse Avedzi says he will make a decision next week on whether to summon musician Shata Wale over the alleged payment of ¢2 million to him by Exim Bank.
He stated that the allegation is not captioned in the reort submitted to the committe by the Exim bank.
"It is a public interest question. So we will take our time, look for the information the Member has and once we get that information we will invite the Exim Bank officials to appear again."
Mr Avedzi said that if evidence is found that Shatta Wale was indeed paid, he may be asked to refund some of the money if the work he did for the bank does not merit that sum of money.
