Twenty-one Persons with Disability (PWD’s) within the Abuakwa South municipality in the Eastern Region, have benefited from the Assembly’s distribution of some items from the last batch of 2018 designated items.
The items delivered include the following: 6 metal containers, 16 deep freezers, 2 motorised spraying machines, 3 charcoal (Sets), 1 shoe-making equipment, 3 hairdressing equipment, an electric design machine, 1 printer and a water pumping machine.
Mr Isaac Ayamga, who spoke on behalf of the MCE, the Kojo Ofori-Safo, assured "all Persons with Disability who have not been served that they will be taken care of in due course as 2019 third and fourth Quarter and 2020 1st Quarter allocations have been released."
"Chairperson, I want to entreat all beneficiaries to make good use of the items they have received and take good care of them. I also charge the Disability Fund Management Committee to supervise and monitor the beneficiaries regularly to ensure the items are being used for the intended purpose," Mr Ayamga stated.
This is in line with guidelines given by the administrator of the District Assembly Common Fund, who indicated in a 2019 press statement that, Persons with Disabilities Fund should equip 50 or more PWD’s in economic and business ventures, allocate 10% for School Fees, Training and Advocacy, 10% for Medical and Assistive Devices among others.
While urging them to efficiently use the items, Mr Ayamga also appealed to those who have not received their items to be patient as the new tranche of the disability fund would be settled soon.
He cautioned that persons who misuse the funds may not be considered in future projects.
Isaac Ayamga further disclosed that a little over GHȻ124,000 has been spent on 102 Persons with Disability in 2019 whose applications were approved by the Disability Fund Management Committee as per the new guidelines.
Additionally, Mr. Asiamah Boateng, who is the federation chairman, thanked the leadership of the assembly for distributing items for the third time in his tenure as chairman.
The NPP chairman for the Abuakwa South, Yaw Boakye Yiadom gave the assurance that his outfit would ensure the president gives them what is due them.
