Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has dismissed claims that he was attacked by former NDC members.
According to the MP, the allegations made by the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, Nii Lante Bannerman, are false, adding that he is surprised the aspiring MP will make such a statement.
“I am utterly shocked that somebody could lie like this to cover up such animalistic behaviour. I can't believe it, they [his attackers] are not and they have never been NDC members,” Mr Vanderpuye told Emefa Apawu on Newsnight, Tuesday.
Although he knows his attackers, the MP said he does not have any personal relationship with any of them nor does he have any conflict with them as has been suggested by Mr Bannerman.
Mr Vanderpuye was allegedly attacked by some operatives of the National Security Secretariat on Monday.
Speaking to JoyNews’ Joseph Ackah-Blay, he said two operatives accompanied by 10 others attacked him in front of the James Town Police station.
He had gone to the station to secure bail for a journalist who had been arrested while working for him.
However, reacting to the attack, the NPP Parliamentary candidate for Odododiodoo has dismissed allegations made by the MP.
According to Nii Lante Bannerman, the boys who attacked Nii Lante Vanderpuye are former members of the opposition NDC who have scores to settle with the MP.
He also claimed that out of the names Mr Vanderpuye mentioned as his attackers, only 1 was a national security operative who was not present during the attack.
However, Mr Vanderpuye told Emefa Apawu the operative popularly called Apor had hit him on his chest. He also identified 3 more people who he claims are a part of national security.
The MP added that it is highly unlikely that his attackers were formerly with the NDC party, as it the idea of making that person the security liaison of Mr Bannerman’s campaign team is inconceivable.
“Is he telling me that the guy just defected from NDC to his party and they just made him a security liaison? He should show me an NDC membership card of any of them.”
