Pan-African research network, Afrobarometer has announced the appointment of Dr Joseph Asunka as Chief Executive effective 2021.
Dr Asunka will be taking over from Prof Emmanuel Gyimah-Boadi.
On assumption of office, Dr Asunka will be expected to lead the outfit into "its third decade as the go-to data source on African experiences and evaluations of democracy, governance, and quality of life,” a September 1 release read.

Describing him as a talented young leader, the current CEO of Afrobarometer said Dr Asuna’s appointment is provides a boost to the team as he possesses the requisite skills to enhance the company’s reputation as a reputable reference point for research around the world.
“Joseph has the academic pedigree, survey and data analysis expertise, personal integrity, and deep commitment to excellence to inspire our staff and partners and to amplify the respect that Afrobarometer has earned among stakeholders and data users throughout the world.”
However, Co-founder Gyimah-Boadi, will continue as board chair after retiring as Chief Executive.
Dr Asuna began his research career with the Ghana Center for Democratic Development, an Afrobarometer core partner, in 2004-2008.
In his current role with the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, which also provides financial support to Afrobarometer, Asunka manages a portfolio of grants supporting efforts to increase transparency and accountability in fiscal governance and foster citizen participation to improve public services in developing countries.
