Residents of Asene Akroso-Manso in the ‎Birim Central Municipality say government’s claims to have completed several infrastructural projects across the country are true.

Their input comes on the back of claims by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) challenging the validity of infrastructural development projects under the Akufo-Addo led government.

They confirmed the construction of a steel bridge that connects the district to other cocoa-farming communities, electrification projects, town roads, a market, mechanised boreholes and a dormitory, classroom block and roads at the Akroso Senior High School.

District Chief Executive for the area, Alex Nkoom, said the district had benefitted from over a 130 infrastructural developments.

“You can count about a hundred and thirty developments in the area under the NPP, spanning from education to health, social and economic services, tourism and electrification projects.

"If the President, Nana Akufo-Addo says he has delivered more infrastructural promises that former President John Dramani Mahama, using Akroso Maaso as a case study, I believe it,” he said.

Other residents of the district commended government on delivering on its promises and said the various projects will help make life easier for them.

“Prior to these projects, life was uncomfortable in these parts, especially in relation to electricity. Thankfully, the government has helped us overcome the discomfort, because other than the connections, our only resort would have been the use of kerosene,” one woman said.

At the Akroso clinic, a senior nurse at the post, Belinda Yayra Dekpor explained that the hospital had only one detention room that serves as male, female and children ward.

According to her, however, the current government has been generous enough in building a bigger ward for the hospital.

“Our only detention ward comprises of five beds, but currently under construction is a 40-bed male and female ward,” she said.

The headmaster of the Akroso Senior High School also confirmed the building of a dormitory for the town's school.

“I can attest to the fact that when it comes to infrastructure, Akroso Senior High Technical School has had its fair share. It is neither an illusion nor a matter of debate but reality,” he emphasised.

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) announced during their 2020 manifesto launch earlier this week that they had in terms of infrastructure delivered more promises than the former government.

This claim has been met with backlash from the NDC who claim that the projects mentioned by the NPP are “ghost projects”.
