Policy and education think tank Imani Africa has endorsed the call by NDC to have a presidential debate between their flagbearers former President John Mahama and President Akufo Addo.
Founding President of the institution said a debate between these candidates will help shift arguments from parties taking credit for a project to its significance, the resources involved and other broader issues.
“There are very important questions that we also need answers to, the value for money asked questions and the resource envelope - where the money will be coming from for all these initiatives that the two parties have undertaken,” Franklin Cudjoe said.
The debate must be had, he told Evans Mensah on Top Story on Joy FM.
Mr Cudjoe’s comments come after the NPP rejected John Mahama’s call for a debate between himself and President Akufo-Addo following the government's Town Hall address on infrastructure built so far.
The debate was to settle, once and for all, whose government has done more for the nation especially in the area of infrastructure.
The NPP’s National Organizer, Sammi Awuku also on Top Story said there was no need for a debate to explain what the NPP government had done for Ghanaians.
“They (Ghanaians) can see those infrastructure for themselves,” he stated.
However, Mr Cudjoe said it is unfair for the President’s spokespersons to reject the idea of a debate when he has not formally answered to the request.
“The Akufo-Addo I know does not run from debates. I am sure if he is given the opportunity he will definitely do it.”
He also urged Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to call John Mahama's running mate Prof Naana Jane Opuku Agyemang to a similar debate.
