Vice President Dr Mahmudu Bawumia has revealed that Cabinet has approved the Creative Arts Bill.
Speaking at a Town Hall meeting in Accra on Tuesday, he disclosed that the Bill is now ready to be passed into law when Parliament resumes in October.
“Under it (Creative Arts Bill) we are setting up a fund to empower the creative arts industry,” Dr Bawumi stated.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in its 2016 manifesto promised to pass a Creative Arts Act that will serve as the legal instrument in regulating the sector.
The Act will amongst others establish the Creative Arts Fund and an Agency to promote the industry.
It will also enable the government to organise the Creative Arts Industry and create an enabling environment through direct and indirect support for practitioners and industry players to impact on national development.
At the Town Hall meeting, the Vice President said that government is hoping when the Bill is passed it will serve as a great tool for growth for the industry.
He stated that they had also completed the construction of a theatre in Koforifua and are currently undertaking one in Kumasi.
The government will build many of these theatres in major cities across the country, Dr Bawumia added.
