Management of the University of Ghana says its students will no longer be able to access the university’s online learning content for free.
This follows an end to the free online data package that was provided for students and faculty members including staff to ensure teaching and learning amid the closure of tertiary schools within the country.
In March this year, Vodafone Ghana, in a bid to support the country's leading university, provided free internet access with some other packages for a period of four months.”
This was to allow students and their lecturers access the university’s E-learning platform and prevent a break in the academic year.
But in a communiqué issued by the facility, management said the special dispensation which was to be renewed on August 25, 2020, has come to an end.
As a result, the University “will no longer be responsible for the cost of data bundles” for staff and students.
The statement, however, emphasised that “This notice does not apply to all those who had already subscribed and paid for the package by themselves before the offer by the University came along."
Although there has been an easing of various restrictions put in place to curb the Covid-19 pandemic including the reopening of all tertiary schools for final year students, management of the university and other schools continue to engage in online learning so as to minimise the spread of the virus.
The final year students also had to take their exams online to prevent overcrowding on campus among others.
In view of this, management is urging all students who wish to continue to receive the 'Tertiary Mobile Data Bundle' to confirm their interest by Thursday, August 20, 2020.
