New Asante Kotoko Chief Executive Officer Nana Yaw Amponsah has assured supporters that the club will be successful under his leadership following his appointment confirmation on Friday.
His unveiling in Kumasi brings to an end three months of the club looking for a CEO following the departure of Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member, George Amoako.
Amponsah was unveiled at a short ceremony on Friday, after a reported meeting with the club’s owner, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Speaking at the event, Amponsah expressed his absolute delight at landing what he called the biggest job in Ghana.
He said Kotoko is the biggest brand in Ghana, rating the club ahead of political parties, New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC).
"Kotoko is the biggest brand in Ghana, not even a political party can be compared to this club. None of the two biggest political parties in Ghana can be compared to Kotoko,” he said amid applause from the teeming Kotoko fans present.
Amponsah then went on to promise the fans massive success, including the club making an appearance at the FIFA Club World Cup.
“I’m going to make sure Kotoko participate in the FIFA Club World Cup.”
In order to play in the Club World Cup, Kotoko must win CAF Champions League, a tournament they haven’t won in over three decades.
The administrator holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Political Science from the University of Ghana, Legon, and a Master’s Degree in Sports Law and Practices from the Leicester DE Montfort University, UK.
From 2008 to 2018, he was a Licensed Player Agent/Intermediary and transferred over 50 players from Ghana and almost 100 across the globe, which brought huge revenues to Ghanaian Clubs in the process.
In 2019, he contested the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential elections, which was won by Kurt Okraku.
