President Akufo-Addo has lauded the Trustees of the Ghana Covid-19 Private Sector Fund for leading the path to glory in a difficult time for the country.
He said the project is a good example of the generous Ghanaian spirit that has been exhibited since the onset of the coronavirus crisis.
"This is a world-class facility, which serves as an example of co-operation between the public and private sectors in our country," he said.
The president said this in his first address to the nation on the Covid-19 pandemic since he came out of isolation.
It was his 14th address to update the nation on the nation’s battle against the novel coronavirus.
The 100-bed Ghana Infectious Diseases Centre at the Ga East Municipal Hospital which was completed in 100 days was handed over on Friday.
The project was conceived and executed by a group of private-sector people, with the support of government and the Ghana Armed Forces.
The donors for the project include the Bank of Ghana, Association of Bankers GNPC, Fidelity Bank, Ecobank, Ghana National Gas Company, CH Group, Legend and Glass Aluminium Systems, and Tropical Cable and Conductors.
"I extend to the trustees and members of the Covid-19 Private Sector Fund, the profound gratitude of the nation," he said.
The nominated Trustees of the Ghana Covid-19 Private Sector Fund are Anthony Oteng-Gyasi (Chairman, Tropical Cable & Conductor Ltd), Edward Effah (Chairman, Fidelity Bank Ghana Ltd), Kwaku Bediako (Director, CH Group), John Taylor (CEO, Woodfield Energy Resources Ltd), Omane Frimpong (Chairman, Wilkins Engineering Ltd), Kwame Ofosu Bamfo (Managing Director, Bamson Group).
The others are Kwabena Adjei (Group Chairman, Kasapreko), Thomas Svanikier (Chairman, Svani Group Ltd), Kwasi Twum (CEO, The Multimedia Group), Senyo Kwasi Hosi (CEO, Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors), Julie Essiam (Commissioner, Ghana Revenue Authority).
Lauding the efforts of the Trustees the president said, "it is the reality of the progress of the virus in our country, the measures we have taken to cope better, and the regular consultations with relevant stakeholders, that informed government’s decision, over a month ago, to embark on a strategic, controlled, progressive, safe easing of restrictions to get our lives and economy back to normal."
