The Union of Voltarians from the Western and Central regions is appealing to former President Jerry John Rawlings to forgive anyone who has hurt him in the NDC and support the party to win the December polls.
According to the union, the full support of the former President can turn things around for the good of the party in the 2020 elections should he take active part in the campaign.
Addressing a news conference in Cape Coast, co-coordinator of the union, Frank Atsu Twoebue asked the party leadership to build bridges that have broken between the founder and the party so the party can go into the polls with everyone on board.
The union prayed the former president and founder of the NDC forgives anybody that has wronged him in the party so they can feel his presence in whatever the NDC does.
“Our father and the founder of the party John Jerry Rawlings has been a dear one to all of us in the Volta Region. We love him with all our hearts because he was the one who brought us into this party. We followed him steadily when he was a military leader up to this democratic dispensation. So the news we have for him or what we want to appeal to him to do for us is that this is the time for him to also back us because we have nowhere to go now.
“We have now seen clearly that we are not welcome when any other party is in power. So if he also rejects us, it means that we have nowhere to go. So we are appealing to him, whatever somebody or the party might have done wrong against him, we are appealing to him to consider his decision and comeback and join us together,” Frank Twoebue said.
He added that, “So no matter the situation, his name cannot be written off in this party, because he’s the founder, he’s the one who brought this party. So we are only appealing that he should rise up, let’s follow him, so that together we can do it and rescue Ghana.
The Union also urged Voltarians in Ghana to get registered to vote the NPP out of power.
According to them, the NDC can only get the opportunity to get back in power again if their members registered to exercise their right during the December polls.
They congratulated the flagbearer of the NDC, John Mahama for appointing not only a lady as his running mate, but someone worthy of substance who can bring something worthy to the ticket.
Speaking on behalf of the union, Frank Mensah Zevor, a coordinator of the Union said the Union is convinced the former president couldn’t have chosen a better person to oartner him than Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman whose integrity and worth they say is unquestionable.
“We Voltarian union, Central and Western Region, we are so happy about your choice of a woman. Not just any other woman but one who is capable, a scholar in academia, a great woman of substance with integrity and credentials. Finally, with an impeccable track record which obviously scares your political opponents,” he said.
