Mohammed Salisu is set to join Southampton from the Spanish side, Real Valladolid, after the Premier League club agreed to pay his £10.9million release clause.
According to Daily Mail, the 21-year-old Ghanaian central defender is expected to sign a four-year contract.
Manchester United and West Ham have been linked with Salisu but the prospect of regular football at St Mary's is believed to have played a key role in Salisu's decision.
Salisu joined Valladolid's youth setup in 2017 and was promoted to the first team at the start of the just-finished campaign.
He gave an impressive account as he featured 32 games across all competitions and scored two goals. His debut La Liga season was rated 7.5/10.
Salisu is yet to be capped by Ghana. He was invited last year for Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe but could not honour the invitation because of injury.
