The Electoral Commission says 7,279,237 Ghanaians have been registered in the ongoing voters’ registration exercise since its commencement on June 30, 2020.

Speaking at today’s edition of ‘Let the Citizens Know’ forum, the Deputy Chairperson of the Commission, Dr. Bossman Asare said the Commission is expecting to register an additional one million eligible voters by Saturday, July 18, 2020.

“What we have registered so far constitute about 48.5% of the 15 million the Commission expects to register by the first week of August.

“With two additional registration days, that is yesterday and today we are likely to add an additional one million to the 7.2 that we have registered.

"And so by tomorrow, July 18, the Commission expects that when we put everything together we will likely hit about 8.2 or 8.3 million and when we do that, that will constitute almost 55% of our projected 15 million.”

Giving the regional break down, Dr. Bossman said Greater Accra, Ashanti, Eastern, and Central region have so far had the highest number of applicants.

While 1, 524, 600 people have registered in the Greater Accra Region, 1, 319, 498 people have registered in the Ashanti Region with Eastern and Central following with 694, 541 and 676, 484 voters respectively.

Calling for calm and continues support, Dr. Bossman assured eligible voters of equal opportunity to get their name on the electoral roll ahead of the 2020 elections.

"The Commission's resolve to ensure that all qualified Ghanaians register to vote in 2020 is even firmer than before. The commission is assuring all unregistered voters that the registration team will be at the registration centres in their communities for them to register," he said.
