If you are a FC Barcelona or Real Madrid supporter, then it seems like you'll have to stick to EA SPORTS FIFA over Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer if you want the authentic La Liga experience.
EA SPORTS and La Liga recently announced a 10-year exclusive partnership that begins with FIFA 21, ensuring that EA SPORTS have the exclusive authenticity of the league in-game. This allows players to make use of their biggest stars in every mode.
The announcement also confirmed that EA SPORTS will continue to be the exclusive Official Video Games Partner of the league, and they will be working together on pushing the FIFA brand to become the leader in football entertainment.
They have also pledged their commitment to growing the esports, with focus on the eLaLiga Santander competition - the official esports competition of the league.
There has been quite a tussle for the biggest stars and leagues behind the scenes on a football front, with Juventus have crossed over to the opposition when they ended their partnership with EA SPORTS in favour of a new deal with PES. This is why you've come to know the Italian giants as Piemonte Calcio in the current version, FIFA 20.
Although FIFA Ultimate Team still boasts their top star in Cristiano Ronaldo, the unofficial version of Juventus in the game does not have the authentic kit or crest.
This could potentially have increased the pressure on EA Sports in securing long-term deals.
Though PES has not struggled to compete on a gameplay level, acquiring authenticity rights has been a long-term struggle for Konami's brand, and for the next decade, EA SPORTS FIFA will be the only video game that offers the authentic El Clasico.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Javier Tebas, President of LaLiga, said, "This renewal enables us to grow the reach and popularity of LaLiga to more and more fans around the world that play EA SPORTS FIFA every day.
"We have built a collaborative partnership with EA SPORTS for more than 20 years that has seen both organizations become leading international brands. Our new agreement signifies our commitment to maintain this growth and create the best entertainment for football fans worldwide."
