Deputy Education Minister, Dr Yaw Adutwum has dismissed claims that the National Youth Organiser for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Henry Nana Boakye also known as Nana B, visited students of Kumasi Anglican Senior School to campaign for President Akufo-Addo’s re-election.
The minister revealed that per the statement put out by Nana Boakye and the checks being made to the school, he only visited the school to monitor the ongoing voters' registration exercise.
“Nana B did not go there to campaign. He went there to check to see how the exercise was going,” he said on Pulse July 13, 2020.
He further cautioned the public not to be swayed by the things they see on social media.
“We have to be careful with what we see especially pictures,” the Deputy Minister said.
The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, sparked controversy after pictures of him emerged on social media interacting with some final year students Kumasi SHS.
In the pictures, It is unclear what the former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme was talking to the students about but many believed he was campaigning.
But the Deputy Education Minister, responding to some of the criticisms explained that headmasters and tutors have been instructed not to allow political campaigns on campuses hence it would be difficult for Nana B to campaign in the schools.
“Campuses cannot be grounds for any political campaign. He wasn’t there to do campaign. The teacher would have stopped him,” he said.
He added that the final year students would be grateful to Nana Addo for taking care of their fees.
“SHS students are not a minority group. They would be grateful to Nana Addo. I don’t think they need a reminder. They don’t need anybody to remind them of how this government has made education accessible,” he added.
