Many students have expressed excitement at an opportunity to vote for the first time as they went through the Electoral Commission's (EC) special voter registration exercise extended to Senior High Schools in Kumasi.
Some schools had registered more than 50 students as at midday as they served as guarantors for their colleagues who did not have other forms of identification.
At the Kumasi Anglican Senior High School on July 10, the registration was done in batches according to classes.
Many of the students could not hide their excitement at the opportunity to vote for the first time.
Some used the Ghana Card or passport as proof of eligibility while others were assisted by their colleagues to fill guarantors' forms.
Deputy EC Supervisor for the Subin Constituency, Samuel Gyan in an interview with Luv News said “because of the Covid pandemic and the students are restricted that is the reason why the commission decided to visit the school and register the students.
“So the polling station close to the school is where we are putting them so that they can get the opportunity to go and vote.”
At Asanteman Senior High School students defied the rains to go through the process.
Teaching and non-teaching staff of the school took part in the registration process at the SDA Senior High school. A move endorsed by the EC official.
