North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has stated that the country needs to ramp up its Covid-19 response by conducting research that is specific to its situation.
According to him, although the fight against the outbreak started on a good note, it is obvious the country has lost control over it.
“I’m not impressed with the response. I think that we started well and were receiving a lot of accolades but that was largely because a lot of African countries were not testing and all of that,” he said on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Thursday.
The legislator noted that such an investigation will aid further study of the virus and enable the management of cases as is happening in other countries.
“You notice that other countries are doing country specific research. They are discovering how the vius is mutating. Apparently in Ghana when you talk to lot of doctors, flu is not a major symptom.
"We are told less than 20% who are presenting with Covid-19 symptoms are exhibiting flu. The loss of smell, for example, is higher among patients presenting.”
“All of these things, we need to know let’s see contextual research, Ghana case specific. Let ib be published. That will even influence law makers, those of us who approve budgets,” he explained.
He added that the same responses cannot yield different results as the present situation shows.
Meanwhile, Mr Ablakwa criticised the decision to reopen schools and conduct voter registration exercise amid the spike in the country's Covid-19 case count.
Currently, there is a record of 23, 463 total Covid-19 cases with 129 deaths.
