The National Democratic Congress is alleging brutality of residents at Holuta, a community in the Ho West Constituency in Volta Region.
“The Military together with NPP constituency executives are moving to homes and searching rooms without any permission or legal approval.
“An NDC Branch Chairperson has been brutalized by the military when she tried to prevent them from searching her room without any permission,” a statement from the opposition party claimed.
The “unprofessional and politically motivated exercise is causing fear and panic in the community,” the NDC says.
Serving “a strong warning to the government,” the NDC says they would not hesitate to retaliate in full measure should the constituents be attacked henceforth.
“Now this goes to the NPP constituency executives in Ho West, remember you are sponsoring brutalities on your own constituents.
“The registration will be over and the military will be gone. You will still be with us here in the constituency. Get ready,” the statement said.
“We call on all constituents especially the youth of Ho west constituency to be vigilant, focused and ever ready to fight for their rights and that of the less privileged in the community,” it added.
Speaking to JoyNews, Member of Parliament for Ho West, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah said President Akufo-Addo must withdraw the troops immediately.
“We are Ghanaians and not Togolese,” he said adding the soldiers should stop harassing the town folk.
“You are professionals, do not allow any politician to use you,” he said.
