Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejura-Sekyedumase constituency in the Ashanti Region is alleging a group of people believed to be affiliated to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) physically assaulted him.
This according to Mohammed Bawa Braimah was perpetrated against him over the ongoing voters' registration exercise on Monday, July 6, 2020.
The MP said he was returning from a visit to a constituency executive who was receiving treatment at a hospital when the incident happened.
"Yesterday I went to visit my organizer who has been hospitalised at the St. Luke Hospital, and I decided that I should pick the food of my agents along that route.
"So on reaching one of the registration centres I met two pickups; one branded NPP pickup with the picture of the President and that of their candidate who is the MCE. And then another Assembly vehicle which had been loaded with thugs numbering about 50 NPP thugs."
He told JoyNews, that it took the intervention of the NDC Executives and other branch Chairman to get him rescued from the hands of the group he describes as thugs.
"They hit my back with a cudgel and I fell, while I was trying to rise up they hit me again, while I was trying to rise up others who I know very well pounced on me and I had to be rescued by the NDC branch chairman and the NDC executives who were at the registration centre."
The NDC MP also accused the police of failing to protect the sanctity of the registration.
Police are yet to comment on the incident.
