The Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide says law enforcement agencies must actively take on the Deputy Trade Minister who resigned for breaching Covid-19 protocols.
According to Kweku Baako, these bodies must form a strong case against Carlos Ahenkorah who consciously flouted Covid-19 protocols and not look up to the president to order them on what to do.
He explained that just as it wasn’t the President who triggered the prosecution of some pastors who flouted Covid-19 safety protocols, law enforcement bodies can take up this case just as they did.
"Let the appropriate agencies trigger that option, you don’t need the President to call the agencies and say go and prosecute him."
“If indeed the man has violated any law and I think so, we have to be specific as to what offence he’s committed and proceed on that in terms of the law and which section of the E.I or whatever public health law," he told host of JoyNews' Newsfile, Samson Lardy Ayenini.
Mr Baako explained that except that is done, the Tema West MP will only be guilty in the court of public opinion.
He cited past cases which were forwarded to the Special Prosecutor and Crime Investigation Department (CID) by president Nana Akufo Addo.
"I'm not against the call for prosecution. I would rather the appropriate authority steps in.
“What stops the police or investigative agencies on their own motion responding to the Occupy Ghana statement which has given them some raw material to proceed on," he said.
Pressure Group OccupyGhana has added its voice to calls by many Ghanaians for the prosecution and withdrawal of the candidature of the Tema West MP, Carlos Ahenkorah.
The Deputy Trade Minister, resigned after he was offered the option of doing so or be fired after he breached Covid-19 protocols.
This was amid heavy public backlash and #CarlosMustResign #SackCarlos trending on social media.
He, however, stated that it may be impossible for him to removed as a Member of Parliament considering the legal implications and the timing.
