President Akufo-Addo has stated that ineligible voters or persons who unlawfully attempt to partake in the upcoming voter registration exercise will be dealt with.
According to the President, the exercise which is to commence June 30, June 30 is meant for eligible Ghanaian voters only.
“It must be our collective duty to ensure that we have a register that is fit for purpose in December and we must all make sure that persons who do not meet the requirements as set out clearly in the constitution do not find their names into the register,” he said in his address ahead of the exercise.
The Electoral Commission Tuesday, will begin a voter registration exercise to compile a new “credible voter register”
The exercise is expected to take place at 33,367 registration centers in all 16 Regions of the country.
The Covid-19 pandemic notwithstanding, President Akufo-Addo is urging all eligible Ghanaian voters to partake in the exercise.
According to him, there is a need to strengthen the Ghanaian democracy despite the effects of the pandemic.
"So I urge all eligible Ghanaians that is Ghanaians of 18 years age or above and of sound mind no matter what party they belong to if any to go out and register so that they can exercise their civic responsibilities on 7th December to elect a government of their choice in a free, fair, peaceful and transparent elections,” he said.
