Chairperson of the Electoral Commission has revealed that the Ghana Health Service has released 7, 000 health assistants to various registration centres as the compilation of a new voters’ roll begins Tuesday June 30, 2020.
Jean Mensa at a press briefing on Monday, said these health personnel are to assist the EC ensure the adherence to all safety protocols during the registration exercise.
Since the country is still combating with the novel coronavirus, Mrs Mensa urged registrants to exercise patience at their registration centres.
“In all of these safety measures we will rely on your corporation dear citizens we believe and know that it will not be easy but with your compliance with the measures, we should be able to carry out all the registration procedures safely,” she said.
Stressing that a credible and comprehensive voters’ register is the bedrock of Ghana’s democracy, the Chairperson urged qualified electorates to participate in the upcoming registration exercise.
She indicated although Covid-19 still persists, her outfit has taken all the necessary measures to ensure the safety of every registrant.
“Please participate in the voters’ registration exercise,” she appealed.
“Monitor the process at your registration centres and draw the attention of the Commission to any anomalies you might observe during the process. Together we will arrive at a comprehensive and credible voters’ register.”
The Electoral Commission has set Tuesday, June 30, as the day to start compiling the new voters’ register. This exercise is to end on Thursday, August 6.
