President Akufo-Addo has assured parents of final-year junior high school (JHS) students of the safety of their wards while they resume school on Monday.
He said all measures have been put in place to ensure that students are safe while preparing for their exam.
The president stressed that it behoves students to adhere to the Covid-19 safety protocols in order to ensure their safety as well.
“Students must all adhere strictly to enhanced personal hygiene and social distancing protocols, regularly wash their hands with soap under running water, refrain from shaking hands and hugging, and wear masks to protect themselves and others.
"Our survival, I repeat, is in our own hands, and, together, we can defeat this virus,” he said during his 13th national address on measures on Covid-19 management.
Final year JHS students are expected to resume classes on Monday after the president Akufo-Addo issued a directive for them to resume to complete their academic work.
The exercise began with final year tertiary school students who resumed two weeks ago then senior high school (SHS) finalist and SHS 2 Gold Track students who also resumed a week ago.
Despite increasing cases of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, the president says it is only prudent that final year students return to school to complete their education while mitigating the effects of the novel disease as nothing must not hinder the progress of education.
He assured that all provisions including fumigating and disinfecting JHS schools across the country, provision of veronica buckets, gallons of liquid soaps, tissue paper, thermometer gun, reusable face masks among other PPEs, have been made available to the schools.
The President further indicated that about 750,000)persons, comprising 532,000 JHS 3 students, and 218,000 teaching and non-teaching staff, and invigilators, are expected to resume.
