More than four hundred and sixty (460) students in the Kumasi Metropolis are undergoing interviews for a scholarship to support their tertiary education.
They are part of between fifty thousand (50,000) and sixty thousand (60,000) applicants expected nationwide to benefit.
Government says it is increasing scholarship funds from about GH¢42 million to GH¢80 million for the 2020/2021 academic year.
The process which began in April involves an online application, aptitude test, and interviews at the district level.
It is part of the vision to digitize and formalize government service delivery processes.
Registrar at the Scholarship Secretariat, Kingsley Agyemang, says the new regime reduces stress especially of rural applicants.
He said, “Many students can now access the scholarship while sitting in the comfort of their homes.”
Mr. Agyemang says the secretariat established in 1960 is being transformed to serve Ghanaians better.
He added the decentralization of its services will increase access and eliminate bottlenecks.
