The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and MP for Bekwai, Joseph Osei Owusu says he is not perturbed by plans by his main contender to contest the upcoming 2020 parliamentary elections as an independent candidate.
This comes after Kwasi Amofa-Agyemang was disqualified from contesting in the just ended NPP Parliamentary Primaries.
He was disqualified by the party after declaring his intentions to contest the incumbent MP.
According to reports, history is about to repeat itself at Bekwai, following the intention of Mr Amofa-Agyemang, who is a legal practitioner, to contest the 2020 Parliamentary elections as an independent candidate.
On November 8, 2008, Osei Owusu launched his campaign as an independent candidate after he lost by a single vote to the then sitting MP, Ignatius Kofi Poku at an NPP primary.
In protest, he contested the seat as an independent candidate in the general elections and won massively.
While in Parliament, however, he decided to rejoin the NPP and has been a member until date.
Speaking to Adom News’ Abednego Asante Asiedu, Mr, Osei-Owusu advised his contender to back down on his plans to contest as independent and wait for the right time to lead the party in the area.
Joe Wise revealed that he suffered discrimination within the NPP following his decision to contest as an independent candidate in 2008 and later defeated the incumbent MP.
He added that such moves affect the party’s presidential candidate election results at the constituency level.
